Prather Racing Hosts British and Miata Car Clubs, Scores Wins at HPT National

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 7, 2009) – Prather Racing stormed the Kaw Valley Race Group SCCA Double National event at Heartland Park Topeka May 2-3 to five class wins in front of a crowd of British Car and Mazda fans.

Hosting more than 50 guests from the local British Car Club and Mazda Miata Car Club on Sunday, the team swept the E and F Production races on the weekend and captured a GT-2 win on Saturday as well.

“It was a great weekend for Prather Racing, sharing the excitement of our racing program with so many enthusiasts,” Owner Kent Prather said. “The weather was great, and more than 50 people came out in their classic British cars and Mazdas. It was a great weekend for the Moss Motors Prather Racing team, both on the track and off.”

Driving the #34 Moss Motors/Prather Racing Mazda Miata, three-time Defending National Champion Jesse Prather dominated the E Production field on Saturday, smashing the track record with a 1:42.392 (87.897 mph) lap in the process. On Sunday, he took his second class win of the weekend to remain a perfect four-for-four on the season.

Also in Group 4, Crispin Beaver won the GT-2 race on Saturday in his Prather Racing powered Mazda RX-7 and Bill Allman, who finished second, set the new class track record at a 1:39.146 (90.774 mph) in his Prather-powered RX-7.

Group One featured a pair of wins by the #8 WBRGraphics/Prather Racing Mazda Miata of defending F Production National Champion Rick Harris, setting a new track record of 1:45.034 (85.687 mph) on Sunday. Each day, he led a Prather Racing top-three sweep, with Bob Bramlage (#83 SparkWraps.com/Prather Racing Mazda Miata) and John Steflik (#06 SparkWraps.com Mazda Miata) completing the podium on Saturday and Eric Prill (#7 Hoosier Tire/Prather Racing/Fight-MS Lotus Super 7) and Steflik completing the top three on Sunday.

Kent Prather extended his GT-Lite MidWest Division points lead, with a second and a third on the weekend in his #26 Moss Motors/Prather Racing Miata despite continuing to run in restricted E Production trim as opposed to full-preparation GT trim. The team will have a full-preparation GT engine before the Runoffs in September.

The next race for Prather Racing is May 30-31 at Mid-America Motorplex, in Junction City, Iowa.
